Friday the 13Th Reboot gets a release date

During the late 70's and the 80's some great, if not the best, three horror characters were thought of and came to the big screen. Michael Myers (Halloween - 1978), Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street - 1984) and Jason Voorhees ( Friday the 13th - 1980). And now Jason will be back on the big screen in March 2014 on the 13th. But that date is not a Friday but a Thursday, (someone at the marketing depatment is not paying attention).

Four years ago they tried to reboot it too and well the figures were not that bad. (It netted about $91 million worldwide on a $19 million budget.), but than is became very , very , very silent around a next installment.

Rights to the franchise changed hands ealier this year from Warner Bros to Paramount. Why? because Warner wanted the rights to Interstellar (Christopher Nolan's new project) and Paramount had those. So they came to a deal: The franchise to Friday the 13th and half the new South Park film, for the rights to Interstellar. But there's catch, the rights will only be in Paramount's hands for 5 years.

With all the low budget R-Rated films out there Paramount might be having something up it's sleeve for the new reboot. It is reported that they want to pursue the "found footage" like the Blair Witch Project (1999). Below this the tweet from Ryan Turek of Shock Till You Drop  earlier this fall -  "Hearing the producers of the new Friday the 13th are still fielding pitches for a "found footage" take."  ( reported by Film).

So this reboot is a genuine reboot and not a sequel to he 2009 reboot and with the release date set I expect to hear more from this over the coming months.
