Sony Pictures to expand the Spider-Man Universe
Sony issued a press statement today in which they announced that new writers have been hired to expand the Spider-Man universe. "
"In a move to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen, Sony Pictures Entertainment, in association with Marvel Entertainment, is developing several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach."
What films you ask? Well these films: “The Amazing Spider-Man 3,” “Venom,” and “The Sinister Six”. Which is good news for the fans of Spider-Man, since Venom and The Sinister Six are great story arcs to make into movies and it looks like these will be stand-alone films. More on the press release can be found here .
Side note, Andrew Garliefd has not signed up (so far) for a fourth Spider-Man of which the release date is already known ( May 4th 2018). In an interview over on Yahoo Garfield said the following on a fourth Spider-Man of which was "all news" to him.
“I mean I’m under contract for another one after this… as far as a forth one? That’s not anything to do with me,” he revealed.
“But yeah, I think what we’re doing here is we’ve established the world. And now we get to really play inside that world,” he added"
Let's hope Andrew Garfield will be our friendly neighborhood spider for a fourth installment but for now we just have to look forward to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which will be in cinemas May 2nd 2014.
