Star Wars Eps VII discards most of the previous Expanded Universe

As May the Fourth dawns upon us in the hope some official statements concerning the new movie is being released, Lucasfilm  has released an article on their website that states "STAR WARS EXPANDED UNIVERSE TURNS A NEW PAGE". Now what does this mean? Well to put it in simple words, it means that the Expanded Universe as it is known to fans will change. How much cannot be said.

The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels animated series and all six films are set to become the canon for what is to come.

"In order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Star Wars Episodes VII-IX will not tell the same story told in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded."

In addition, Del Rey Books has revealed the book cover illustration for their first release of the new Expanded Universe novel Star Wars: A New Dawn a novel that precedes the events of Star Wars Rebels. You can read the full statement on StarWars.com
